MacCurtain Street Public Transport Improvement Scheme

Scope

The survey was commissioned to assist with the design and implementation of the MacCurtain Street Public Transport Improvement Scheme, forming part of the Cork City Centre Movement Strategy (Cork CCMS).

The projects main aim is to improve the general vibrancy of Cork City Centre to promote sustained economic growth, to deliver a much more attractive environment for shoppers, visitors, and tourists and to help encourage sustained inward investment.

The survey included a Topographic Survey and Underground Utility Survey and was generally located at MacCurtain Street, Patricks Quay, Merchants Quay, Camden Place, Lower Glanmire Road, Railway Street and other surrounding streets within Cork City Centre.

Key Activities

• Survey encompassed the public space along various urban roads, as well as open spaces and access points from the public areas to private property, and all notable features in between.

• The survey was related to the ITM (Transverse Mercator) and Ordnance Survey Level Datum (OD Malin Head).

• Topographic Survey included features such as kerbs, walls, building lines, street furniture, service covers, road markings, spot levels and contours.

• Above ground utilities surveyed included, overhead lines, inspection covers, inspection boxes and utility poles.

  Below ground utilities were detected using a combination of Radio Detection, Electromagnetic and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) techniques included electric cables, telecommunication cables, gas main, water main, storm drains, foul sewer and non-metallic pipes and ducting.
